Aman Truck Lines increases driver compliance by 50% with Boon

August 9, 2024

Background

Aman Truck Lines (ATL) is Tracy, CA-based nationwide freight carrier operating across all 48 contiguous states that specializes in full truckload services. With a fleet of 405 trailers and tractors, ATL prides itself on delivering high-quality service and ensuring timely deliveries for their clients.

Challenges

ATL faces a number of challenges in their day-to-day operations to stay compliant with Department of Transportation regulations:

  1. Manual Driver Log Review: ATL’s process of reviewing driver logs was entirely manual. ATL dedicated a team member to combing through each driver's logs to identify missing data, such as trailer numbers or shipping documents. This task was non-core to this team member’s responsibilities, and this individual’s time was expensive.
  2. Time-Consuming Follow-Ups: With their existing process, it took 4-6 hours per day for this team member to chase down to comb through their logs, and have the driver submit documents to correct the logs. This was a significant time sink, taking away from the team member’s core tasks and impacting overall productivity.
  3. Inconsistent Driver Compliance: Drivers were inconsistent in providing the necessary information, requiring multiple follow-ups from dispatch, eating into their core responsibilities, and further delaying the process and incurring fines and impacted ATL’s carrier score cards for missing data.

Solution

To address these challenges, Aman Truck Lines implemented Boon’s Automated Compliance product. Boon’s Automated Compliance solution integrated seamlessly with their existing Samsara ELD solution, providing real-time alerts to drivers to update gaps in their driver logs. These alerts are designed to notify the driver and escalate to alert dispatch. Boon’s Automated Compliance starts with a notification to the driver, followed by a second alert after an hour if the issue is not resolved. After another hour, drivers receive a third alert, followed by a call from dispatch.

Results

After implementing Boon’s Automated Compliance solution, ATL found that 50% of its drivers comply with the deficiency request by the second alert, and the remainder of the drivers comply after a third alert and follow-up call from dispatch. This saves the dispatch team at Aman considerable time, having to place 75-80% fewer calls to its drivers.

  • Significant Time Savings: The time required for the team member to chase down drivers was reduced from 4-6 hours to 1-2 hours per day, saving 50-83% of their time.
  • Cost Savings: Given the team member's full-time equivalent compensation for other responsibilities, this time reduction resulted in substantial cost savings for these particular tasks.
  • Improved Efficiency: Automation allowed the team member to focus on other important tasks, enhancing overall operational efficiency. Automation also minimized the incidence of human error, improving work quality.
  • Reduced Call Volume: The dispatch team at ATL now needs to place 75-80% fewer calls to its drivers, which frees up more of their time for core tasks.
